Read Construction secures eighth consecutive ISO 19650 certification after clean audit
The Wrexham-registered contractor said a September project-level audit found no minor or major non-conformities, extending a BIM certification record it has held with BSI since 2019.
Read Construction has been recertified to BS EN ISO 19650-2:2018 for the eighth consecutive year, the contractor said, after a project-level audit in September recorded no minor or major non-conformities.
The certification covers the company's business systems and processes as Lead Appointed Party, providing design manager, lead contractor and project manager roles, and incorporates the UK National Annex to the standard, according to the announcement.
Read Construction said its BIM management team, led by design manager Darren Brimble, demonstrated BIM project delivery during the audit. The company said its systems and processes had continued to evolve since it began working with BSI, the certification body, in 2019.
The firm also said it shares its experience with clients and supply chain members to upskill them and raise awareness of information management in construction.
Eight years of certification
The company's BIM track record predates the current certificate. In August 2018, Read Construction said Brimble had gained BIM Level 2 Certified Practitioner status through BRE Group, describing him as the first certificated practitioner based in a North Wales SME and one of only 48 people in the world to hold the accreditation at the time.
Alex Read, director at Read Construction, said in 2018: "This new accreditation for Darren further strengthens Read's commitment to delivering a fully compliant BIM service." In the same statement he referred to an initial scheme with Flintshire Council that had been described as a Construction Excellence Wales BIM pilot project.
In July 2019, the company said it was the first contractor in Wales to be awarded what it then called BIM Level 2 ISO 19650 verification by BSI for its business systems and processes. The latest announcement describes the award as recertification to BS EN ISO 19650-2:2018. The 2019 post noted that ISO 19650 parts 1 and 2 had replaced PAS 1192-2:2013 and BS 1192 for the delivery of BIM Level 2 projects.
BSI says it certifies services including BIM under its Kitemark scheme, although Read Construction's announcement does not say whether its certificate is a Kitemark. BSI and nima run the IMI Framework for information management.
