Constructing Excellence has published a post sharing the Digital Place Playbook 2026, a collaborative e-book from the Tech London Advocates (TLA) PropTech Working Group, to which its head Alison Nicholl contributed.

The best practice body said the Playbook examines how data, digital infrastructure and innovation can help create smarter, more sustainable and better-performing environments.

It said the publication is aimed at clients, developers, consultants, contractors, asset owners and technology providers seeking to understand the opportunities digital innovation presents across the built environment lifecycle.

Nicholl, Head of Constructing Excellence, said: "This is an excellent piece of work, showcasing the fundamental role that digital technologies play in delivering a high-performing built environment."

She added: "My key learning was that we need a greater level of understanding between the tech community and the built environment community to fully unleash the potential."

The Playbook

The TLA PropTech group describes the Playbook as an e-book co-created with thinkers, practitioners and innovators to define the future digital place. The group said it takes an enterprise-architecture view of how places can operate in a connected future.

Constructing Excellence said readers can download the document from its post.

A launch session for the Digital Place Playbook 2026 with TLA PropTech was listed in the PropTech Week programme on Thursday 10 September at the InterContinental London – O2, according to PropTech Connect. That session was listed for developers, owners, occupiers, operators, public sector, urban planners and investors.

The working group

Tech London Advocates describes itself as a network of more than 15,000 tech leaders, entrepreneurs and experts in London. Its PropTech Working Group states its first objective as raising the profile of PropTech and increasing adoption across all aspects of the built environment.

The Playbook follows earlier publishing work by the group. Its Digital High Street 2030 programme comprised four e-books published in 2021, covering Retail Experience, Mobility, Smart Public Space and Community.

The group also ran a Net Zero Industry Challenge launched in 2022, with Furbnow and Carbon Construction named winners at The Big Reveal in February 2023.

Constructing Excellence

Constructing Excellence was formed in 2003 through the merger of bodies including the Reading Construction Forum, Design Build Foundation, Construction Best Practice Programme and Movement for Innovation. It traces its heritage to the 1990s Latham and Egan reports and says it has delivered best practice and knowledge transfer for more than 20 years.

The organisation became part of the BRE group of companies in August 2016. Nicholl is listed on its site as Head of Constructing Excellence within the National Team.
